What is the reason for the Christmas season?
I. Christ came so we could be redeemed.
- Redeem means to recover from the power of another.
- His death paid the penalty for our sins and satisfied God’s wrath that should have been placed on us. (Hebrews 9:28; I Peter 2:24)
- The ransom price was the blood of Christ. (Hebrews 9:12)
II. Christ came so we could be adopted.
- When adopted, you become God’s child. (Galatians 3:26)
- When adopted, you receive God’s Spirit. (Ephesians 4:30; Romans 8:15-17)
- When adopted, God becomes your Father.
- When adopted, you have an inheritance.
What do we inherit?
- Eternal life (Titus 3:7)
- God’s presence (Revelation 21:3)
- The very glory of God (Romans 5:1-2)
- Everything because we are fellow heirs with Christ (Hebrews 1:2; Romans 8:15-17)
