The Mindset of a Godly Steward, Pt. 1

March 18, 2018 Speaker: Michael Knight Series: Biblical Giving

Topic: Biblical Giving Passage: Matthew 6:19–24

The Lord is not as concerned with our possessions as with our attitude about our possessions.

The Greek word for “treasures” (used 17 times in the New Testament) means things laid up in treasure. It includes more than just money.

1. I must be satisfied with eternal treasures.

  • Negative Command (v. 19) - “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth.”
  • Positive Command (v. 20) -“But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven.”
    (John 4:27)

How can I know if I’m pursuing earthly or eternal treasures? (v. 21)
    1. Check your values.
        - What you value is what you pursue.
    2. Check your vision. (v. 22)
         - The clarity of my spiritual vision affects the way I live.
         - Ask yourself:
           • What do you think is important? That reveals your values.
           • How do you spend your time? That reveals your vision.

What is most important is giving the Gospel & discipling believers; growing a relationship with God, and serving those around us.  People last for eternity. Things do not.
