The Qualities of a Godly Woman

May 13, 2018 Speaker: Michael Knight Series: Current Sermon

Topic: Godly Womanhood Passage: Titus 2:1–5

In Titus chapter one, Paul leaves Timothy on the island of Crete to train men for the work of the ministry. As instruction for Titus, Paul lays out the duties of a pastor. In chapter 2, he sets forth the duties for specific groups within the church. In today's sermon, we will look at the character and conduct of godly women in the body of Christ.

1. The Qualities of a Godly Grandmother (Titus 2:3)

• She has a godly demeanor.
- She is reverent. Reverent means befitting of a sacred person.

• She is guarded in her speech.
-  She is not a gossip. (1 Peter 5:8) The word gossip shares the same root with the word “guy devil.”
- Her words are uplifting and full of grace. (Ephesians 4:29)

• She is not enslaved by alcohol.
- She is not controlled by anyone or anything other than the Holy Spirit of God.

• She is to be a teacher of what is good to the younger women.
- She encourages through both her life and her words.
- She teaches things that are pleasing to God and shows how to live a live life that counts for eternity.

2. Qualities of a Godly Mother (Titus 2:4-5)

• She is to (“phileo” - affectionate) love her husband and children.
- It’s unconditional love.

• She is to be sensible.
- She has the ability to curb her impulses (sober-minded; self-controlled; level-headed; Spirit-filled).

• She is pure.
- She guards her thoughts, words, and actions. (1 Peter 3:2)

• She is focused on being a homemaker.
- It means she is preoccupied with her ministry at home. It is her first priority.

• She is kind and easy to live with.

• She properly arranges herself under the leadership of her husband.

Why should we live this way? (Titus 2:5) So the Word of God will not be reviled, and the Gospel will go forth without obstacles. We live this way to glorify God.
