The Master of Breakthrough

March 10, 2019 Speaker: Steve Pettit Series: Guest Speakers

Topic: Providence Passage: 2 Samuel 5:17–22

Are you in need of a breakthrough? When things happen, God doesn’t do things for the purpose of changing your circumstances. He does it to change you. He wants you to surrender to His will. He wants you to obey. He is the Master of Breakthrough!

The Meta-narrative of Scripture:

  1. God creates everything.
  2. Man sins.
  3. God provides redemption through Jesus Christ our Redeemer.
  4. God’s consummation of His redemptive plan for His people will come when He returns.

Never underestimate the training of young people. David was anointed at age 17 but didn’t become king until 30. He was anointed, but not yet prepared. God used the next 13 years to prepare David.

In 2 Samuel 7, God was going to make a covenant with David. He was going to make a promise that through David the Messiah would come. When the Philistines attack David, they were attacking God’s plan.

The greatest protection and gift to the people of God are the promises of God! We need to pray His promises. If you can’t pray about it, DON’T DO IT! When you pray about it, don’t look back.

2 Samuel 5:20 is the key to this passage. Baal-Perazim (meaning “breaking forth”) is used 4 times. God broke Baal. You could say the Lord is a tsunami. The Lord is the Master of Breakthrough! For every situation, He is the Conqueror. God’s promises are not stamped with an expiration date. His promises apply today!

God calls judging His people "strange (unusual) work." He prefers to work for His people. In Isaiah 28:21, He must work against them. Is He still the Master of Breakthrough? Yes! Through Christ, the Master broke through! He conquered death for us.
