Paul's Prayer for the Church

Colossians 1:9-14 outlines Paul’s prayer for the church of Colossae. We should pray this same prayer for one another. 

1. He Prayed for Biblical Wisdom
• Not just knowledge – “gnosis” (1 Corinthians 2:14) 
• Spiritual wisdom and understanding – “epignosis” (Proverbs 3:13-14; 8:11) Knowledge followed by obedience is "epignosis."
• The God-given ability not only to know God’s Word but to practically apply God’s Word to daily living. That person has a Christian mind. God blesses this person. (Joshua 1:8)

2. He Prayed for Godly Living
• A worthy walk – Living in such a way that gives the right opinion of Christ (Colossians 1:10; 1 Corinthians 10:31) 
• A fruitful walk – Christ-like living produces fruit. (Galatians 5:22)
• A growing walk – Progressive sanctification
• A powerful walk – To endure trials and people (Colossians 1:11; James 1:2-3)
• A thankful walk – For all God has given us (Colossians 1:12)
