Where do you seek satisfaction in life? What are your life pursuits? Is God present in your thoughts throughout the day? How do these things measure up against Jesus’ standard?
How do you destroy your life?
1. Look for the wrong things in the wrong places. (Matthew 10:39)
• Lose means to destroy or ruin.
• Jesus uses paradoxical language: The person who destroys his life by the world’s standards will find it. The person who finds his life by the world’s standards will destroy it.
2. Get as much as you can. (Matthew 16:24-26)
• Living for Jesus requires self-denial.
• Jesus shows the foolishness of pursuing material gain.
3. Live life without God. (Luke 17:20-33)
• Jesus addresses normal, everyday things.
• The people were not prepared for judgment.
• Are you living life with God present in your thoughts?
4. Live life for yourself. (John 12:17-25)
• Jesus submitted His life to God’s will. He gave His body sacrificially on the cross. (John 12:25)
• Jesus was not focused on Himself at all.
• Do I care more about my desires than God’s?
• Focusing on self is the root of all sin in your life.
