The Only Way to Escape Hell

September 22, 2019 Speaker: Michael Knight Series: Current Sermon

Topic: Salvation Passage: Acts 20:17–20:24

What is the only way to escape hell? Christ said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father but through Me.” (John 14:6) Either Jesus was telling the truth, or He was the biggest liar that ever lived. Let’s examine what the Scripture has to say about salvation.

What is the only way to escape hell?

1. Repent of your sins.
• Paul was not the only one who preached repentance.
- John the Baptist preached repentance. (Matthew 3:2; Mark 1:4)
- Jesus preached repentance. (Matthew 4:17; Mark 1:15)
• What is repentance?
- It’s a change of mind about who you are and what you deserve.
> You are a sinner. (Romans 3:23)
> You deserve God’s judgment in hell. (Romans 6:23)
- It’s a change of mind about Who Christ is.
> Christ is God. (Matthew 1:23)
> Christ died for you. (Romans 5:8)
> Christ paid the judgment you deserve, and He’s l the only One Who can save you. (1 Peter 2:24)

2. Trust Christ alone to save your soul.
• Other verses that teach salvation by faith in Christ alone: Mark 1:15; Acts 16:31; Acts 19:4.
• What does it mean to place your faith in Christ?
- It mans to place your complete trust and confidence in Christ alone to save you.

Conclusion:
In order to escape hell, you must come to a point in your life where you are willing to repent of your sins and transfer your dependence on anything else to Christ and Christ alone to save you!
