The Fulness of Christ in Your Home, Part 2

What does it look like to live out our fullness in Christ in our homes? Parenting is carrying out the Great Commission in the life of our children. How do we accomplish this ministry?

• What are we to shepherd our child’s heart toward?
1. Salvation
2. Sanctification

• What is the purpose of loving discipline?
- It always has a restorative purpose.
- It is to help your child return to God’s circle of blessing.
- It is always for the purpose of directing them to God.

• When should I start spanking?
1. Start when your child shows his/her will.
2. This time is usually very early in life.

• When should I stop spanking?
1. Stop when your child is mature enough that you don’t have to spank.

2. Stop when your child is too big (puberty age).

• What should I use to spank? (Proverbs 13:24)
1. Use something that hurts.
2. Use something that will not harm.

• For what should I spank?
1. Direct disobedience
2. Disrespect
3. Moral or character issues (eg., lie, steal, cheat)

• How should I spank?
1. Spank with self-control.
- Never spank out of anger.
2. Spank with a clear understanding of the offense.
3. Spank with a regular routine.
4. Spank with determination to get through to your child.

Parents are not to exasperate their children. (Colossians 3:21)

• What are the meanings of the words in this passage?
1. “Provoke” means “to anger or enrage.”
2. “Exasperate” means “to make resentful, irritate, or excite to anger.”
3. “Lose heart” means “to discourage, lack motivation, cause to feel like giving up.”
