The Will of God

Have you ever wondered if God has a specific plan for your life? How can you know that plan? Why should you care about doing God's will? Dave Barba of Press On Ministries brings a message from Jeremiah 1:1-11 on the will of God.

3 Reasons to Do the Will of God:
(Ephesians 5:17; Psalm 40:8)
1. Misery is the result of doing my own will. (e.g., Eve eating the forbidden fruit —> the Fall of Man)

2. Joy is the result of doing God’s will. (e.g., Joseph in Potiphar’s house —> promoted to second in command in Egypt)

3. The way to have your will is to do God’s will.
- When you surrender to doing God’s will, God will change your “wanter.”

Principles of God’s Will:

1. It flows from Who God is, from the Person of God:

• He has a will of purpose for you.
- He’s sovereign.

• He has His will of providence.
- He sees what’s going to happen before it happens so He can prepare the way for us (unexpected circumstances or even difficulties).

• He has a will of precept.
- When we obey, He gets the glory. If it’s written in His Word, we know what He wants us to do, and He will get the glory.

2. God’s will is specific.
- He knows our individual strengths and weaknesses. He created you for a specific purpose.
- He will show you His will as you are yielded to Him.

3. God’s will is always present.
- You obey today. He will lead you today.

4. God’s will is discovered by means, not just feeling.
What means does God use?
- Circumstances
- Godly Counsel (Proverbs 11:14)
- The Word of God
- The Holy Spirit

5. God reveals His will one step at a time.
- Obey God’s will each day, and He’ll open and close the doors.

What do I do if I am out of the will of God? Psalm 25:9-11
• Get rid of your pride.
- Meekness is the opposite of pride.
• Admit your sin.
• Ask God to pardon you.
