The same God who orchestrated the events in Luke 2 during a dark period of history is the same God who orchestrates events today. The will of God WILL be accomplished no matter the circumstances. God is on the throne. His kingdom will advance! Listen to the lessons taught from the manger in Luke 2:1-7.
1. A Message of the Sovereignty of God (Luke 2:1-5)
- “Those days,” were the wicked time under the rule of Caesar Augustus who saw himself as a god.
- All were to be registered for increased taxation. Previously, the Jews were not counted in the Roman censuses.
- Two seemingly insignificant people become the focus of this passage: Mary and Joseph.
- Mary was expecting the Christ Child. There was a scandal attached to Mary and Joseph due to the suspicion of immorality.
- However, there was a prophecy that was given 650 years before these events and recorded in Micah 5:2-4.
- Every single prophecy of God will be accomplished.
- The circumstances of the Christmas story were orchestrated by God—not Caesar August—to accomplish His plan of salvation.
