The Resurrection of Christ: The Completion of the Gospel

April 12, 2020 Speaker: Michael Knight Series: Special Topics

Topic: Salvation Passage: 1 Corinthians 15:1–4, 1 Corinthians 15:12–19

There are three aspects to the Gospel [good news]. First, we are all sinners. Second, Christ died for our sins. Third, Christ rose from the dead to eternal life! Without the empty tomb, there would be no good news. If Christ didn't have power over death, we wouldn't have hope of eternal life. Let's look at Christ's resurrection in I Corinthians 15.

1. The Gospel includes the resurrection. (1 Corinthians 15:1-4; Psalm 16:10)

  • Christ died for our sins. (1 Corinthians 15:3)
  • Christ was buried. (1 Corinthians 15:4)
  • Christ was raised on the third day. (1 Corinthians 15:4)

 2.  Without the resurrection, there is no Gospel. (1 Corinthians 15:12-19)

  • Our preaching is useless. (1 Corinthians 15:14)
  • Our faith is worthless. (1 Corinthians 15:14)
  • All the witnesses of the resurrection are liars. (1 Corinthians 15:15)
  • We are all still in our sins. (1 Corinthians 15:17)
  • All former Christians died without hope. (1 Corinthians 15:18)
  • Christians are the most miserable people on the planet. (1 Corinthians 15:19)
