The Glories of Our Salvation, Part 2

May 24, 2020 Speaker: Michael Knight Series: The Epistle of 1 Peter

Topic: Salvation Passage: 1 Peter 1:3–12

The expression of your salvation is displayed through how you live your daily life. What does your salvation look like when you are distressed or face trials? As believers, we can greatly rejoice! This sermon is part 2 of “The Glories of Our Salvation.” To listen to part 1 of this sermon, please follow this link.

  1. The expression of our salvation is a paradox.

  • Rejoice when distressed.
  • For a Christian, gladness and sadness can co-exist.
  1. The expression of our salvation should be very expressive.

    • Christians can “greatly rejoice” in their salvation at all times. (1 Peter 4:13)
  1. The expression of our salvation is seen most when we are distressed by various trials.

  • “Distressed” refers to an inward feeling of distress and grief caused by outward circumstances.
    • “Various Trials” means trials of many colors.
    • “Even though now for a little while” indicates the limited duration of trials.
    • “Necessary” suggests trials have a divine purpose. (Romans 8:28-29)
  • Different reasons why God allows Christians to go through various trials:
  • As a form of discipline to bring us back to God (Hebrews 12:5-11)
  • To grow us and build in us endurance (James 1:2-4)
  • To humble us and keep us dependent upon Him (2 Corinthians 12:9-10)
  • To open new doors of ministry (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)
  • To prove the genuineness of our faith (1 Peter 1: 7)
  1. The expression of our salvation through trials proves the genuineness of our faith.

  • Genuine faith is more valuable than anything.
  • Genuine faith will be rewarded by God.
  1. The expression of our salvation has a glorious outcome. (1 Peter 1:8-9)

  • Our love for Christ is expressed during life’s trials.
  • Our faith in Christ is expressed during life’s trials.
  • Our joy in Christ is expressed during life’s trials.
  • Our faith in Christ results in the salvation of our soul.
