The genuineness of our salvation is reflected in how we live. As a believer, we should live our lives in pursuit of God. I Peter 1:13-21 outlines this pursuit.
Live a life pursuing God. (1 Peter 1:13-21)
How do we pursue God?
• Fix your hope on eternity. (1 Peter 1:13)
- It’s not an emotional thing. It’s a choice of the will.
- The doctrinal certainty of Christ’s return gives the believer hope.
- We are tempted to fix our eyes on circumstances.
• Prepare your mind so you will think biblically. (1 Peter 1:13)
- Loose thinking results in loose living.
- Renewed thinking results in righteous living. (Romans 12:1-2)
- Prepare your mind for action by saturating your mind with the truth of God.
- This requires us to read, meditate, and memorize His Word.
- Let God’s Word act as a strainer for your thoughts and actions. (James 1:2-5)
• Practice self-control. (1 Peter 1:13)
- A person with a prepared biblical mind will be self-controlled. (1 Peter 4:7, 5:8)
- We can be calm in any situation if we are focused on eternity and saturated in His Word.
We
• Pursue personal holiness. (1 Peter 1:14-16)
- Personal holiness, “as children of obedience,” is what you will desire. (1 Peter 1:14; 2 Corinthians 5:17)
- Personal holiness means terminating your old way of living. (Titus 3:1-7)
- Personal holiness means to be God-like. (1 Thessalonians 4:7; 2 Corinthians 7:1; Psalm 19:14; Leviticus 11:44; Ephesians 5:1)
Are you living a holy life in all areas of your life? First, evaluate your relationship with God. Next, daily fix your hope on eternity and saturate your mind with His Word. James 1:5 tells us to ask God for and rely on His wisdom.
