Instructions from a Wise Father

Being a father is an important responsibility. How can a father be what God intends for him to be? Let’s examine the instructions for fatherhood from a wise father found in Proverbs 3:1-12.

1. Remember God’s Law. (Proverbs 3:1-4, 29:18)

  • Read and study God’s Word.
  • Meditate, memorize, and live according to God’s Word. (Deuteronomy 6:4-9)
• What are the benefits of remembering God’s Law?
  • Longer Life (Proverbs 3:2; Ephesians 6:1-3)
  • Peaceful Life (Proverbs 3:2; Ephesians 6:4)
  • Acceptable Life (Proverbs 3:4)

2. Rely on the Lord. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

• The Person of Our Trust
  • Jehovah
• The Percentage of Our Trust
  • 100% of you, 100% of the time
• The Promise of Our Trust
  • God will show us the right way to go.
  • God will bring us to His appointed goal which is for our good and His glory.

3. Reverence the Lord. (Proverbs 3:7-10)

• You should fear the Lord.
• You should forsake evil.
• You should give your first fruits to Him.
• You will be filled with plenty.

4. Receive the Lord’s Discipline. (Proverbs 3:11-12)

• God’s discipline should not be resisted. (Hebrews 12:4-8)
• God’s discipline is loving.
