John 13:35 says, "By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." Love is the mark of a true believer. How can we love one another? What does this love look like? Let's examine God's truth in 1 Peter 1:22-25.
1. Our Capacity to Love Others (1 Peter 1:22)
- It is given to us by God at salvation.
- What does it mean for our souls to be purified?
- Our sins have been forgiven.
- How is our soul purified?
- It's purified by our obedience to the truth of the gospel.
- It's purified by accepting Christ as Savior.
- It is sincere and not hypocritical.
- Loving other Christians is evidence of true salvation.
2. Our Command to Love Others (1 Peter 1:22)
- The Intensity of Our Love
- “Fervently” means intense.
- The Reciprocal Nature of Our Love
- “One another” – Flows both ways
- The Source of Our Love
- “From the heart” – The inner being
3. Our Cause to Love Others (1 Peter 1:23-25)
- Our regeneration causes us to love others.
- “For you have been born again”
- Our regeneration is accomplished through the Word of God.
- Regeneration cannot be accomplished by man.
- Regeneration can only be accomplished by the Holy Spirit using the Holy Word of God to bring people to Christ.
