Topic: Christian Growth Passage: Proverbs 18:12

How can you be skilled in living life the right way? Are you a wise person? Proverbs 18:12 tells us how to live our lives in a way that is honorable.

Let’s uncover the meaning of Proverbs 18:12.

What do the keywords mean?
• Before Destruction
- Destruction means to break, crush, or shatter.
- Destruction means to trample underfoot.
• The Heart of Man is Haughty
- Haughty means to be high, exalted, elevated (Proverbs 18:10-11)
• But Humility Comes
- Humility means to be oppressed.
- The intended result of affliction: To experience God as Deliverer (dependence).
• Before Honor
- Honor means heavy, weighty.
- Honor implies glory or value.

How does this apply to our lives?
1. This proverb is for everyone who thinks they don’t need it.
- Once haughty pride comes, shattering destruction follows.
- Honor doesn’t come without humility first.
2. Go for the bronze.
- Don’t do or say anything to lift yourself up (or put others down).
- Do as much as you can to lift up others.
3. Patiently submit and endure.
- This is generally true in life and always true in eternity.
- People will honor you, and if they don’t, God will.
