The Revelation of Jesus’ Names

December 6, 2020 Speaker: Michael Knight Series: Christmas

Topic: Christmas Passage: Matthew 1:21–23

What is the true meaning of Christmas? What is the purpose of Christmas? What impact does it have on our eternal destiny? In this message, we will look at the meaning of Christ’s name and its personal impact on us.

1. His very name reveals the purpose of His birth.
• Jesus means “Savior.” (Matthew 1:21)
• The reason the baby Jesus was born was to be the Savior for mankind.

2. His very name reveals the sinful condition of man.
• The fact that God sent Jesus to be our Savior means that man needed saving.
• Why does man need a Savior?
- He needs it because we are all sinners. (Ecclesiastes 7:20; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 53:6)
- He needs it because we all deserve the judgment of God in hell. (Romans 6:23; Revelation 21:14)

3. His very name reveals to us the love of God. (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23)
• “Immanuel” means “God with us.”
• How does Immanuel reveal the love of God?
- Jesus, Immanuel, God in the flesh, died for your sins. (John 3:16; Romans 5:8)
- There is no greater expression of love than to give your life for someone else. (John 15:13; 1 John 3:16)
- God loved you so much that He died for you!

4. His very name reveals that He is the only way to heaven.
• Jesus says He is the Door or Gateway to God. (John 10:9)
• Jesus says He is the Bread of Life. (John 6:35)
• Jesus says He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. (John 14:6; Romans 10:9-13; John 1:12)

Have you placed your faith in Jesus Christ? Believers, are you sharing the meaning of Christmas with those who are lost (Matthew 28:19-20)?
