Examine Your Life - Part 2

January 10, 2021 Speaker: Michael Knight Series: Current Sermon

Topic: Christian Growth Passage: Galatians 6:3–4

Galatians 6:4-5 commands us to examine our actions and motives. As we start the New Year, let's join one another in examining our lives. First, we must know whether we are in the Lord, and, second, we must scrutinize our lives to see if they are pleasing to the Lord (1 Corinthians 3:11-15). This is part 2 of the sermon "Examine Your Life."

1. Examine your salvation. (2 Corinthians 13:5; Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23; Romans 5:8; John 3:16; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 10:9-10; Romans 10:13; 1 John 5:13 )

2. Examine your personal walk with God. (Galatians 6:4)

  • Is there any unconfessed sin in your life? (1 John 1:9; Proverbs 28:13; Psalm 139:23-24)
  • Are there any unresolved conflicts with others? (Romans 12:18; Mark 11:25; Matthew 5:23-24)
  • Are you spending time with God? (Matthew 6:6, 33; James 4:8; Luke 10:38-42)
  • Are you serving in the local church? (Hebrews 10:25; 1 Peter 4:10)

3. Examine your relationships with others.

  • Your Relationship with Your Spouse (Ephesians 5:21-33)
  • Your Relationship with Your Children (Ephesians 6:1-4; Deuteronomy 6:1-9)
  • Your Relationship with Other Believers (Galatians 6:10; Romans 12:10)
  • Your Relationship with the Lost (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15; Acts 1:8)

4. Examine your ministry at church.

5. Examine your finances. (2 Corinthians 9:6-7; Luke 6:38; Malachi 3:10; James 1:17)

6. Examine your testimony at work. (Colossians 3:22-25; 1 Corinthians 10:31)

7. Examine your health. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20; Ephesians 5:18; 1 Corinthians 10:31)

Why is proper examination so important? (Romans 1:18-32)

  • It allows you to determine whether you are truly saved, and it may keep you from becoming a reprobate and spending eternity in hell.
  • It allows you to recognize false teachers. (1 John 4:1-3)
  • It allows you to live a happy life by staying right with God and others. (Romans 14:22-23; Ephesians 5:10; Philippians 1:27; 1 Thessalonians 5:21-22)
  • It allows you to know God’s will. (Romans 12:1-2)
  • It allows you to select godly leaders in the church. (1 Timothy 3:1-13)
  • It allows you to be prepared for God’s examination at the Judgment Seat of   Christ. (1 Corinthians 3:10-15)

Psalm 139:23-24

Search me, God, and know my heart;
Put me to the test and know my anxious thoughts;
And see if there is any hurtful way in me,
And lead me in the everlasting way.
