In the Scripture, Satan is described as a roaring lion. As believers, we need to be spiritually alert to resist his attacks. This is part two of the sermon Exhortations to All Church Members.
To listen to part one, follow this link. Below is the outline from part one:
1. Submit to your pastors. (1 Peter 5:5a)
2. Humbly serve one another. (1 Peter 5:5b-5c)
3. Humble yourself before God. (1 Peter 5:6-7)
Part two begins here:
4. Be watchful of the devil. (1 Peter 5:8-9)
• Believers have the duty to wake up and live with spiritual alertness. (1 Peter 5:8a; Matthew 26:30-75; 1 Thessalonians 5:6)
• Believers must be watchful of their adversary. (1 Peter 5:8b; Job 1:7-11; Revelation 12:9-10; John 8:44)
- Our enemy, the devil, who is a false accuser and slanderer of Christians before God is walking around like a roaring lion seeking someone to destroy.
- The devil is prowling around eager to capture and devour Christians, like you and I, as his prey.
• What stand should we take against the devil? (1 Peter 5:9a; Ephesians 6; James 4:7
- In our fight against the devil, the answer is to resist him, not retreat.
- What enables us to stand up to the devil is not the level of the strength of our belief, but the Person in Whom we believe.
- We can stand up against the devil because we are in Christ. Christ is stronger than the devil, and Christ defeated the devil on the cross.
