What is the Lord's Supper? Why do believers observe the Lord's Supper? 1 Corinthians 11:24-32 explains the purpose of the Lord's Supper.
1. The Lord’s Supper was instituted at the Last Passover.
2. The Lord’s Supper is an ordinance, not a sacrament.
3. The Lord’s Supper is called Communion.
4. What are the purposes of the Lord’s Supper?
- To remember all Christ went through on the cross (1 Corinthians 11:24-25)
- To preach the cross to one another (1 Corinthians 11:26)
- To anticipate the return of Christ (1 Corinthians 11:26)
- To encourage self-examination and a life of purity (1 Corinthians 11:27-32)
5. What are the procedures of taking the Lord’s Supper?
- Who should partake?
- Only true born-again believers
- Only true, obedient, focused believers
- What is the order of the procedures?
- Examine yourself.
- Confess your sins.
- Meditate on the sacrifice of Christ.
- Partake of the bread and cup.
