A Healthy Mind

October 3, 2021 Speaker: Steve Pettit Series: Guest Speakers

Topic: Christian Growth Passage: Isaiah 26:1–4

Mental health is a big concern today. Is it a big deal in the Bible? One out of every 5 verses in the Bible is about the mind. Isaiah 26 talks about a healthy mind. How can we handle the issues of life?

What are the spiritual elements of a healthy mind?

1. The mind is a part of being created in the image of God.
2. The mind was totally impacted by the fall of Adam in the Garden of Eden and has been corrupted. (Genesis 6:5; Romans 8:13)
3. The mind is transformed through salvation. (1 Corinthians 2:16)
- Spiritual growth is the transforming process of the mind being renovated. (Romans 12:2)

What is a healthy mind? (Isaiah 26:1-2)

1. A healthy mind is one that is kept in perfect peace [shalom - shalom].
• Shalom means free from danger, satisfaction, blessing, contentment, protection. The psalmist gives 2 emotional word pictures.
- A healthy mind is imaged as a strong city.
- A healthy mind is imaged as an everlasting rock or high plateau.

2. How do you experience this healthy mind? (Isaiah 26:3-4)
• Your mind must be staid on the Lord.
- It’s developed through trusting and resting in God during life’s disruptions and difficulties. (1 Peter 5:7)
• Your mind is your imagination. Your imagination has the ability to create reality. Focus on Who He is and what he has promised.
• You must focus on His Word and His promises. Take Bible promises and Bible words and THINK about them.

If you want peace-peace, you need to trust-trust more-more in Jehovah-Jehovah.
