Giving That Pleases God

October 17, 2021 Speaker: Michael Knight Series: Current Sermon

Topic: Biblical Giving Passage: Mark 12:41–44

Psalm 24:1 teaches that God is the owner of everything. As stewards, we are responsible to use all that God provides wisely and according to His will. How should we give to God? Let’s examine Mark 12:41-44 and the example of the widow’s giving out of her poverty.

1. Why preach on giving?
• We want to be faithful to all the teaching of the Bible, and the Bible talks much about giving.
• It’s important to have a Biblical view of giving.
• Giving is a part of our worship.
• Giving is a sign of salvation and spiritual growth.
• Together we can accomplish more.
• We want to fulfill our vision.
• Every gift matters no matter how small.
• We want to please our Savior in our giving.

2. Give regardless of what you make.
• The widow gave out of her poverty.
• She didn’t wait to give until she was rich or felt like she could afford to give.
• Whether rich or poor you should give.
• What pleases God is not equal giving but equal sacrifice.
• God is more pleased with sacrificial giving than surplus tipping.

3. Give in response to God giving to you.
• This widow was so moved by God’s grace and work in her life that she willingly gave all she had to God.
• Grace-giving is the sacrificial giving a believer does in response to the gracious work of God done on His behalf.
• Since Christ gave everything for us, we should respond by giving to Him not only our tithes and offerings but our entire life. (Romans 12:1-2)

4. Give and trust God to provide.
• The widow completely trusted God to provide for her needs.
• When you give to God your first fruits, you are not only putting God first in your finances, but you are trusting God to provide.
• Grace-giving is faith-giving.
• Graciously give to God and trust God to graciously supply your every need.
