The Amazing Ministry of Prayer

November 21, 2021 Speaker: Michael Knight Series: Current Sermon

Topic: Prayer Passage: Colossians 1:3–9

James 5:16 says: "The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.” Let's study what the Scripture has to say about the importance of prayer in the life of a believer.

1. The Importance of Your Praying for Others

 Romans 1:9-10

"For God, whom I serve in my spirit in the preaching of the gospel of His Son, is my witness as to how unceasingly I make mention of you, always in my prayers making request, if perhaps now at last by the will of God I may succeed in coming to you.”

2 Corinthians 13:7

“Now we pray to God that you do no wrong; not that we ourselves may appear approved, but that you may do is what is right, even though we may appear unapproved.”

2. The Importance of Others Praying for You

2 Corinthians 1:11

“You also joining in helping us through your prayers, so that thanks may be given by many persons on our behalf for the favor bestowed on us through the prayers of many.”

Ephesians 6:19

“And pray on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel.”

3. The Command to Pray for One Another

Ephesians 6:18

“With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints.”

1 Timothy 2:1

“First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men.”
