How Christians Should Deal with the Upcoming Election

October 27, 2020 Speaker: Michael Knight Series: Current Sermon

Topic: Government

How do you know whom to vote for in the elections? What does the Scripture have to say about choosing government leaders? How can my vote give glory to God? Listen to this sermon on the Christian and his/her civic duty.

The pastor has the responsibility to guard, protect, feed, and lead the flock. (Acts 20; Ephesians 4)

1. Pray for your country and your elected leaders.
• Pray for the revival of God’s people. (2 Chronicles 7:11-14)
- Requires humility, prayer, seeking God, and repentance. (1 John 1:9; Proverbs 28:13; Psalm 32:3)
• Pray for the salvation of the lost. (1 Timothy 2:1-7)
• Pray for the welfare and prosperity of your country. (Jeremiah 29:4-9)
- “Welfare” in Hebrew is the word “shalom” which means peace, prosperity, health, and safety.

2. Vote for the best candidate. (Proverbs 14:34) Abortion, the sanctity of marriage, gender distinction, religious liberty.
• Vote based on Biblical precepts/principles not based on party or personality.
- Vote for candidates that are pro-life, not pro-abortion. (Deuteronomy 19:10; Jeremiah 1:5)
- Vote for candidates that are for biblical!marriage between a husband and a wife and not for those that endorse same-sex marriage.
- Vote for candidates that are for gender distinction, not those who promote transgender.
- Vote for candidates that are for religious freedom and not those who want the government to control the church. (Ephesians 5 - Christ is the Head of the Church, not the government.)
- Vote for candidates that are for law and order, not for those who want to defund the police and let the mob rule. (Romans 13)

3. Vote for the least bad candidate.

4. Remember that God is in control. (Psalm 2:1-4, 22:8; Daniel 2:20-21)

5. Trust God with the results. (Romans 8:28-30: Proverbs 3:5-6)

6. Remember that Christ is the answer to our greatest problem, not a politician. (Ephesians 2:4-9)
