God’s Judgment of False Teachers and His Rescue of the Righteous

November 7, 2021 Speaker: Michael Knight Series: The Epistle of 2 Peter

Topic: False Teachers Passage: 2 Peter 2:3–5

With every truth of the Word of God, the devil has a counterfeit. Christians need to be aware of Satan’s lies (Deuteronomy 13:1-4). Let’s examine God’s warning regarding false teachers found in 2 Peter 2:3b-5.

1. God’s Judgment of False Teachers (3 Peter 2:3b-6)
• The Promise of God’s Judgment (2 Peter 2:3b)
- God’s decree of judgment on false teachers is still active. (James 3:1)
- God’s judgment on false teachers will not be overlooked. (Jude 3-4)
• The Evidences of God’s Judgment (2 Peter 2:4-6)
- God judged the sinning angels by sending them to hell. (2 Peter 2:4; Genesis 6:1-8; Jude 1-6; Revelation 20:1-3)
- God judged the ancient world by a flood. (2 Peter 2:5; Genesis 6:9, 7:22-24)
- God judged Sodom and Gomorrah by fire. (2 Peter 2:6; Genesis 13:13, 19:23-30)

2. God’s Rescue of the Righteous (2 Peter 2:5b, 7-8)
- Noah was saved by grace through faith and was rescued. (2 Peter 2:5b ; Hebrews 11:7)
- Lot was saved by grace through faith and was rescued. (2 Peter 2:7-8; Genesis 19)
- We can be saved by grace through faith and be rescued.

Conclusion:
If God judged the wicked and rescued the righteous in the past, then He will continue to do so.
1. God will rescue his people. (2 Peter 2:9a; James 1:2)
2. God will punish all those who reject Him. (2 Peter 2:9b-10a; Revelation 20:11-14)
